“I work exclusively in hand-building. Each piece is created over several days, assembled from numerous different pieces, often incorporating metal, wood and glass, and finally finished with numerous different underglazes and glazes.
My ceramic work embodies a lifetime of creative training and expression. Since my teens, I have been building an endless variety of projects, in every possible scale using a never-ending variety of materials. When I began working with clay again, it opened up a new world of possibilities.”
Todd Hays is a lifelong resident of Pasadena, CA. Studying a wide variety of art since he was a child and trained in all media, he was accepted to study still photography at Art Center College of Design right out of high school. Later changing his major to film, he graduated from USC Film School with a degree in film production. While Todd has always been building things, from furniture and mixed media art pieces to habitable dwellings, he recently began working with clay as his chosen medium of expression. His ceramic hand-building work spans fine art vessels, wall-mounted pieces and figurative work.
