“My work is grounded in a slab-built practice that emphasizes slow, intentional craftsmanship. I approach each piece with patience, refining the form and surface to achieve a clean, balanced finish. Shapes are often connected across works—cutouts from one piece are repurposed into another—creating a quiet dialogue between forms and highlighting the continuity of the making process.”
Christine Lathrop is a ceramic artist whose work blends minimalism, organic form, and a deep appreciation for how shapes interact. She first discovered clay in high school, and after many years away, rediscovered ceramics as a creative grounding point and a return to tactile, intentional making. Rooted in hand-built techniques, her work explores the tension between softness and structure, often focusing on how individual forms fit together, balance each other, and create quiet visual harmony. Her recent collections include delicately contoured vessels and playful sculptural pieces that celebrate imperfection and the beauty of handmade work. Each piece is crafted with intention, inviting viewers to slow down and connect with material, form, and space. Christine works out of Makers and Clay studio in Monrovia, California, her hometown, where she continues to develop new bodies of work for gallery submissions, local markets, and private collectors.
