The Dude Show: That Rug Really Tied
the Room Together
at the Los Angeles Makery LAM Gallery
Submission Deadline: Rug pick by July 13th. Artwork drop off August 3.
That rug really did tie the room together—and now it’s your turn.
We’re inviting artists of all disciplines to submit work for The Dude Show, an irreverent, inspired exhibition built around repurposed rug samples, donated by Marc Phillips, as raw material or conceptual foundation. Whether you weave, paint, sculpt, sew, collage, or break the rules entirely, this is your chance to pay homage to The Big Lebowski, the art of recycling, and the mystery of what truly “ties a room together.”
Requirements:
All submissions must incorporate one or more rug samples, donated by Marc Phillips, in a visible or conceptual way that are from the Makery’s stash.
Any medium welcome: sculpture, installation, textile art, collage, video, performance, etc.
Works should reflect, reinterpret, or draw loose inspiration from themes of the film: identity, absurdity, laid-back rebellion, domestic space, or surreal Americana.
Rug Samples Available:
Free rug samples available at the Los Angeles Makery on a first-come basis, first served.
To Apply: Come in and pick up a rug, then fill out a form. $25 application fee. Deliver your art work by August 3, 2025.
Important Dates:
• Deadline to pick up rug and apply: July 13, 2025
• Art drop off date: August 3, 2025
• Exhibition Dates: August 7 - September 6, 2025
• Opening Reception: First Thursday preview Aug 7, 6-9pm. Opening Aug 9, 2025, 6-pm.
This show abides, man. So roll with it. Get weird. Get thoughtful. And bring your own interpretation of what really pulls the space together.
Release of Claims: Artist agrees that The Los Angeles Makery, or any owners, shareholders, members, officers, directors, employees, agents, successors, assigns, lessors, lessees, and/or volunteers of any of the foregoing (collectively “Releasees”), is or will not be, responsible for loss, theft, or damage to any work of Artist. Artist waives all rights, causes of action, or claims against any of the Releasees for any loss, theft, or damage to any work of the Artist, regardless of fault or allegations of fault. Artist acknowledges that Releasees do not have insurance covering the loss, theft, or damage to any work of the Artist. Artist agrees that Participation in the show is in all respects at your own risk.
