Plein Air Exhibition Art Submission
CALL FOR ART: Urban Plein Air
A Contemporary Los Angeles Urban Plain Air Exhibition
Hosted by the Los Angeles Makery/Main Gallery
Deadline: 12/20/25
Exhibition Dates: 1/3/26 - 1/25/26
Location: Los Angeles Makery / Main Gallery
The city is alive—raw, restless, unpolished. We’re seeking artists who venture into the streets, alleyways, loading docks, transit hubs, industrial edges, and worn corners that rarely make it onto postcards. This exhibition invites plein-air artists to capture the urban environment as it is, not as it’s romanticized.
Urban Plein Air – Grit & Grain celebrates the overlooked: the weight of concrete, the geometry of scaffolding, the glow of neon on rain-stained asphalt, the poetry of cracked pavement and cluttered storefronts. We’re looking for work created on-site, immersed in the pulse and imperfections of the city.
What We’re Looking For
• Plein-air works created outdoors within an urban environment
• Pieces that emphasize grit, texture, and authenticity over idealization
• Real street energy: movement, noise, clutter, decay, density, and contrast
• Any medium traditionally used in plein air (painting, drawing, mixed media on paper or board, etc.)
Submission Guidelines
• Up to 3 submissions per artist
• Provide a short description of the site and your experience working there
• Images should be high-quality and labeled with your name and title
• Submission fee $25
Eligibility
Open to local Los Angeles artists.
Important Dates
• Submission Deadline: 12/20/25
• Notification of Acceptance: 12/24/25
