"The Water is Broken" by Dellis Frank
Art Title: The Water is Broken
Medium: Mixed media
Dimensions (h x w x d): 21 x 10 x 7
Artist Statement: My work is rooted in social justice, with a focus on the disparities that persist in communities of color. Using an environmental lens, I repurpose materials headed for the landfill to construct fiber-based assemblages—an approach I call The Greening of Fine Art. Guided by intuition, my process—Vibrational Cooking—mirrors the rhythm and improvisation of everyday life. I “paint with fibers,” beginning with a chosen color family and wrapping varied forms until a structure reveals itself. Often, the materials themselves inform my process. Their textures, histories, and shapes guide the work’s direction and can lead me into multidisciplinary explorations, expanding both concept and form. Symbolism and color are central to my practice, acting as portals for self-reflection and inviting viewers to examine their desires, biases, and lived experiences.
