"Rose" by Liane Enkelis
Rose, 2025. Digital photograph, 20” x 16”. $175
Goddess energy is creative energy. And feminine energy. When looking at all Mother Nature offers, a most exquisite example of creative energy is flowers — the creation organs of plants. Although flowers can be female, male, or both, literature most commonly identifies them as feminine — probably because of their beauty and creation of seeds for new life.
An impactful photograph was described by Henri Cartier-Bresson (often considered the father of photojournalism) as one that captures a “decisive moment” — having perfect timing, when the elements of a scene come together in perfect harmony, creating an image that captures a universal moment. Although Cartier-Bresson was referring to candid moments of human interaction, I interpret that can also be a universal moment of the power and beauty of nature. The shared experience of viewing moments of beauty can bring people together. My goal and hope for my work is that it plays a small part in helping us better understand and appreciate our world and ourselves. And as an avid gardener, my experience is that Mother Nature is a healing goddess.
