Persephone, 2025. Fabric, lace, thread and beads; 35” x 24” x .5”. $300
One in a series of "Domestic Goddess" aprons, inspired by the hostess aprons my mom would wear when entertaining in the 1960's. Persephone was the Greek Goddess of the Underworld and Queen of the Dead and wife of Hades. The apron features hand embroidered pomegranates--the food of the dead and whose seeds were eaten by Persephone, causing her to stay in the Underworld for six months out of the year. Persephone is embroidered on transparent netting and behind her are my photos of the "Queen of the Night”— a night-blooming cactus that grows in my garden.
