"My prints for 'Pressing Matters' delve into the indelible marks left by time, catastrophe, and technological evolution, each work exploring the concept of 'impressions' in both their physical and metaphorical sense. Having transitioned into printmaking from photography and photo-based analog collage, I've found the medium profoundly impactful; the tangible process of creating a plate and pulling a print renders a unique 'rawness' that amplifies the core message of each piece. This tactile engagement with the surface allows the images to convey the profound influences and effects of their subjects in a visceral way.

The Mortification of Time,” the drypoint etching featuring a cracking and exfoliating 100-year-old doll, serves as a poignant meditation on the passage of time and the unavoidable reality of decay. Its delicate yet assertive lines capture the fragility of memory and the enduring physical impressions left by a century of existence. In a direct engagement with urgent contemporary 'pressing matters,' my paper lithograph, “At 356 Degrees Fahrenheit, the Tires Begin to Melt,” depicts the stark aftermath of January's Eaton Fire—a melted car and burned trees. This image powerfully conveys the destructive force of climate change, imprinting the raw consequences of environmental impact. Completing the series, “Mournful Visitation,” a paper lithograph based on manipulated AI-generated imagery explores the digital impressions that permeate our modern world. By transforming these found, artificial images, I reflect on how technology shapes our perceptions and leaves its own distinct 'marks' on reality. Collectively, these prints invite viewers to contemplate the diverse ways in which forces, both natural and human-made, press upon us, leaving their lasting impressions."

Rodney Boone: Artist Bio

Rodney Boone is an artist who, in his seventh decade, has found himself increasingly drawn to the profound and often overlooked process of change—from the bloom of youth to the inevitability of decay. Initially rooted in photography, Boone honed his eye for the "abrupt vivacities" of fleeting moments, capturing the subtle beauty often missed in our daily lives.

This fascination with time and transformation deepened in his recent series of analogue cut-and-paste collages, "The Mortification of Time." In these works, Boone employs his own photographs of vintage family dolls, whose decaying forms and steady gazes prompt a universal dialogue on mortality and spirit.

In 2025, Boone expanded his artistic practice into printmaking, studying under master printmaker Nguyen Ly in San Pedro. This new medium has offered a revelatory path to explore the raw and incisive marks that underscore his ongoing interrogation of time's passage and its indelible impressions. His printmaking endeavors continue to build upon his photo-based investigations, bringing a new dimension to his enduring themes.
