“Little Tokyo” by Julie O’Sullivan

$1,500.00

My studio is in Little Tokyo and Little Tokyo is nowhere near Nebraska. I love it hear. It is the fuel for my art. It is a mecca of culture and color. I live in Santa Monica near the sea. I create differently there. It is a gentler, calmer, tamer environment.

Little Tokyo is exciting and so interesting. I step outside and walk into another county, another world, a different way of life. I am lucky to have this at my doorstep.

I create with vibrance in my DTLA studio, in the heart of the city. I am energized and alive. I am safe in my studio and feel the possibility of danger when I leave. The city can be generous; it can also be harmful. There is the heaviness of sound and the grittiness of pollution. The streets are littered and house those with no home to go to.

I have found a peace, a sanctuary, here at The Makery. I am safe. I am energy and light. I am a translator of energy and light. I am a channel of the energy around me. I absorb it, interpret it and release paint on canvas to represent it.

I love Little Tokyo.
