Artist Statement: Hydra is a found object, installation created specifically for LAM Gallery. This fire hose was found on a friends property in the aftermath of the Eaton fire, left stiff in the rubble and ash in a backyard we had a holiday party in a month prior. This object had once carried water, urgency, and hope but now it carried only the weight of what had happened to those in Altadena. I brought it into my studio not as a trophy of destruction, but as a witness. Transforming this relic into expression with each twist and bend in its form, a line in a story written by heat, smoke, and human hands that refused to give up. What remains is not just ruin, but a record of strength. Hydra symbolizes the regenerative nature of Angelenos, who come together in times of need to support each other and come out stronger.
