"Goddess in Process, 2023" by Laura Brody

$850.00

Goddess in Process, 2023.

Digital photos, remnant fabrics and trims, thread. 32" x 35" x .75". $850.

Statement: “Goddess in Process" incorporates photos taken during the making of the Kali Walker, which were then sewn to remnant cultist chenille and sari fabric and hand embroidered. The Kali Walker was fueled by two years of rage beginning with the run up to the 2016 election and a dear friend's death from a hate crime, and in times of personal strife, political trauma, and global distress I ask her to give me strength.

Bio: Laura Brody sculpts for the human body and its vehicles. She is the founder of Opulent Mobility, a series of exhibits that re-imagine disability as opulent and powerful. She is also the host of Genius Teatime, a series of talks that explore fascinating folks from all walks of life. Recently her curatorial work expanded with exhibits on the Goddess in all her forms,  commentary on the Plague, and wearable art.  Ms. Brody is a skilled and innovative artist, curator, and educator who re-imagines disability as something to celebrate, not fear. Along with her disability arts community she builds opportunities and starts genuine conversations about diversity, access, and inclusion.
