“This work explores memory, labor, and the physical toll of garment production through cyanotype, photography, textiles, and hand sewing. Using cotton fabric, my mother's archived garment factory invoices, and photographic imagery, I transform materials tied to her years in the garment industry into personal and historic records. Sewing functions as more than a method of construction- it's an act of respect for garment workers whose labor often remains unseen. The dress reflects the long-term physical consequences my mother endured after decades of repetitive work, incorporating medical imagery to visualize the injuries left by years of sewing. Together, these works examine how labor is carried within the body and preserved through material, honoring the resilience of garment workers while revealing the hidden human cost behind the clothing we wear.”
