"Coquette Katrina, 2024" by Jacque Lene Rogers-Engel

$699.00

Coquette Katrina, 2024. Styrofoam, textiles, faux flowers. 57” h x 20" w x 12”. $699

Statement: The piece " Coquette Katrina" was completed 7.1.24 and honors Dia Del Los Muertos. Her Styrofoam head has a Calavera Mask, headband with roses, a black and white chiffon veil attached and a grey Ombre wig. She is on a dress form with a blue green silk dress, hand beaded under skirt and hand embellished embroidered mauve shawl. As befitting a coquette, her entire costume is embellished with large stands of colorful pompons, ribbons, beaded earrings, fancy trims and many other accouterments.

About the artist: My artwork for over 20 years has been focused on painting, print making, mixed media, altars, masks and textiles. Mythology, mysticism and history coupled with humor and color have been my reoccurring influences and themes. Studying Commedia Dell’Arte mask making in Italy as well as Italian mosaics have provided images and techniques that I continue to work with. Not to be forgotten is the influence of Dia de Los Muertos on my costumes, masks, prints, paintings and textiles.
