Artist Statement:

My Risograph prints are an exploration and acceptance of both human and machine processes – where each piece is shaped not just by my hand but also by the mechanical quirks of the Risograph machine. Each print begins with a hand-drawn image that is then translated through the unique workings of the Risograph machine. The process is prone to imperfections such as roller marks, variations in ink distribution, and slightly offset registrations. I enjoy these idiosyncrasies and unique markers in the prints.

"Pressing Matters" speaks to the core of this process—the way the Risograph physically imprints the ink onto paper, creating marks that are intentional but also subject to the foibles of the machine. These impressions mirror how we as individuals leave our own marks on the world—sometimes through deliberate action, sometimes through the forces beyond our control.

What interests me about printmaking, particularly with the Risograph, is the ability to make art more accessible while also embracing the potential for experimentation and alteration. In these works, the medium itself becomes an integral part of the message—an impression of both the artist's hand and the machine's rhythm, reflecting the ways in which we are all pressed by external influences and yet continue to create something distinctly our own.
