The written word, from parchment to skywriting, the typed word, from page to phone. The Los Angeles Makery invites artists, writers, and performers to explore the life of letters – the world of words.
WORD is an exhibition about the written, typed, and painted word. The status of words, from calligraphy to graffiti. The weight or lightness of words, the ideas they ignite.
We are looking for work that uses its words – to speak its mind, to charm your socks off, to mesmerize through pattern or repetition.
All mediums welcome: visual art, sculpture, installation, textile, printmaking, video, audio, digital work, performance, and literary art in all its forms.
Exhibition Dates: August 6 – 30, 2026
Submission Deadline: July 12, 2026
Application Fee: $25
Gallery Commission: 30%
DROP-OFF (NO SHIPPING ACCEPTED): August 1, 2026
Submit with images or documentation of your proposed work, a brief artist statement, dimensions and medium, and technical requirements. Performance proposals should include a description and preferred timing. Written and literary works are encouraged in full.
